The differences between an ice bath and a cold shower?

According to research, cold exposure is more effective the larger the area exposed to cold.

In an ice bath, the most optimal thing is to immerse yourself up to your neck in the water, when the cold penetrates your body effectively and quickly thanks to the water pressure.

A cold shower is a great way to incorporate cold therapy into your everyday life. However, there are differences in the shower compared to an ice bath. It is not possible to get the water in the shower to evenly cool the body at the same time. The shower also exhausts the hydrostatic pressure of the ice bath, which enhances the penetration of the cold water into the soft tissues and nervous system. A cold shower is also often perceived as unpleasant, because the area to which the shower is directed can, so to speak, "lack" the cold.

Should you take an ice bath after every sports performance?

Cold therapy has been a part of health care for decades and a mainstay of athletes' recovery.

Cold therapy has been studied more and more in recent years and it has been found to be a natural, safe, effective and comprehensive form of treatment for the body and mind.

Stress caused to the body by exercise or a busy lifestyle causes a similar reaction in the body to heart rate fluctuations.

Cold treatment affects the Vagus nerve, which covers 75% of the parasympathetic nervous system. By affecting the vagus nerve, you can slow down the heart rate and have a calming effect on the internal organs and mood, among other things. Stimulating the vagus nerve therefore reduces stress and speeds up relaxation.

An ice bath speeds up recovery after sports performance. It enables the next exercise to be performed faster and with a higher intensity. Since the ice bath speeds up recovery and prevents inflammation, it is also considered to reduce the risk of injuries.

An ice bath optimizes post-exercise recovery and therefore it should be a procedure after every sports performance.

How do I keep the water cold?

The research results recommend that the temperature of the water in the ice bath should be below 15 degrees, so that it would be possible to get the benefits of the cold.

Cold tap water is about 5 degrees Celsius. The water in the outdoor cold water pool freezes when the water temperature is around 0 degrees Celsius.

If necessary, you can cool the water by adding more cold water, ice cubes or ice cubes from the freezer to the pool.

The cold pool is made of 3-layer TPE insulation, which keeps the water temperature constant. Place the cold water basin outside in the shade. When placing inside the pool, please make sure that there is a drain in the space.

How to assemble a cold pool?

Assembling the Northdip Basic cold pool is easy and fast. Assembly only takes about 10-15 minutes:

  • Open the package and remove the parts from their packaging.
  • Insert the plastic feet into the pockets around the tub, thin ends first.
  • Make sure the tub is placed on a flat surface before filling it with water. The pool is only allowed to be moved when it is empty.
  • Fill the ring at the top of the tub with the pump. Note that the valve has two parts, one of which is put in place to keep the air in the tire. Please note: if you need to deflate the tire, remove both valves and the air will leave the tire.
  • There is a valve at the bottom of the tub, which should be closed from the inside of the tub to the closed position.
  • Slip the black rubber grommet into the drain pipe at the bottom of the tub near the fabric before attaching the drain valve.
  • Close the drain valve to the closed position and fill the tub with cold water.
  • If necessary, add ice cubes or cold packs from the frost to the water.
  • You can put Epsom salt in the water or if you want to extend the water change up to 4 weeks, you can add Bromi tablets to the water.

See detailed instructions and videos in the "product and assembly instructions" section.

What do I do if the water in the cold pool freezes?

If the water in the cold pool freezes, melt the ice by adding warm water to the pool.

If necessary, remove water from the pool, using the drain valve at the bottom of it, before adding new water.

Please note that you must not break the ice with force, because it can break the pool.

The material of the cold pool lasts outside - up to 15 degrees below zero.

By adding Epsom salt to the water, the water freezes more slowly.

How do I enter the cold pool?

After removing the cover, step into the cold water pool and get into a comfortable sitting position.

Focus on taking calm, deep breaths in and out.

To achieve the most effective health benefits, submerge your entire body in cold water up to the neck.

Depending on where the cold pool is, take support from the wall or railing if necessary, but use them at your own risk.

We always recommend that another person is present when using the cold pool.

You may experience numbness after an ice bath, which can make it difficult to get out of the pool on your own.

How do I keep the water clean?

In the cold pool, the lid must always be kept on when the pool is not in use, to prevent debris and dust from entering the pool.

We recommend changing the water once a week if Epsom salt or Bromi tablets have not been added to the water to extend the life of the pool water.

Espom salt extends the water change interval up to 2-3 weeks.

Ordinary salt (e.g. table salt) is not safe to use, because the coating of the cold water pool may not withstand chloride-containing salts.

The use of a skin-friendly bromine tablet or powder extends the life of the water up to 4 weeks.

The use of chlorine is not recommended because it is less resistant to cold water than bromine.

When emptying the pool, pour the water into the drain or nature while the pool is placed outside.

If Epsom salt or Bromine has been added to the cold pool and the water cannot be directed to the drain, it can be released into the soil in a controlled manner.

Water may not be discharged directly into a body of water, a lake or a ditch.

When you change the water in the cold water pool, clean the inner surfaces of the pool with a neutral cleaning agent.

How do I fit in the cold pool?

In the cold pool, you are in a sitting position, and even a 2-meter person can sit there very well.

How to fill the cold pool?

The first time you use it, rinse the inside of the cold pool with lukewarm water and wash it with mild soap.

Fill the pool about 70% full with cold tap water.

Please note that when there is water in the pool, it must not be moved, because weight is applied to it and the pool may break as a result.

How does a cold water pool fit in a small space when packed?

The cold pool is packed in a small briefcase-shaped cardboard box with dimensions of 68 x 36 x 11 cm and a total weight of 3.5 kg.

The cold water tub comes with a carrying bag in which you can store and carry the tub if you wish.
